Welcome to Albion Rovers

Albion Rovers Football Club is an association football club based in the city of Newport, South Wales who play in the Gwent County League First Division, which is at the fifth tier of the Welsh football league system. The team was formed by Scottish coalminers who moved to Newport for work in 1937

Albion Rovers have since been bringing the community together through football for generations.

Our Facilities

Clubhouse

We have a great clubhouse with a bar area, used for team presentations and fundraising nights.  It is a community hub with local clubs and community groups hiring it throughout the week, groups include; Slimming World, Body & Mind Yoga with Jo, SW Fitness Coaching, Local Anglers Association and GL Dancing.

We have 2 full size football pitches which are well maintained and marked out ready for matches and training throughout the week and weekends

Thanks to the hard work of George Hood who obtained a significant grant we have our own 3G pitch complete with flood lighting to accommodate training all year round.

Terrence Wilkins

Chairman

Commonly known as Wacka, I joined Albion Rovers in 1975. I played 494 games and scored 79 goals for which I held the position as Captain. My last competitive game was on 11th April 1999, we played against Milford Haven in the The Welsh League, unfortunately we lost 3-1 but I scored the only goal for Albion Rovers.

Mike Desmond

Treasurer

I joined Albion Rovers in 1980. Unfortunately, after only playing 9 games I suffered a bad ankle injury which never properly healed and so I had to give up playing football.

However, I already had the Albion bug at that stage and stayed a club member even until this day, over 43 years later.

Sarah Yemm

Club Secretary

The newest member of the committee I joined in 2021 I am a huge advocate of engaging children in positive activities and so took it upon myself to support the Mini’s section when my youngest son joined at U6’s. However, over the last couple of years my role has expanded and I now provide secretarial support to the whole of the club.
